Ep 8 | You Are Not Too Sensitive: Finding Safety in Your Own Heart
There is a striving that comes along with having this design. You can feel when things are off. You can feel the discomfort. You can feel the tension. And from that depth, is what inspires strategic thinking, creativity, and conscientiousness. But we cannot just keep pushing through. We cannot ignore our body's messages just because we feel things so deeply.
In this episode, I speak to the automatic loops that keep us running on pilot. I talk about the tears that are healthy energy in motion, not something to hold back. I share my own story of loss, of a best friend who moved away, of a marriage that ended, and how life revealed a whole new journey after my awakening in 2008. I also share the research from the HeartMath Institute about the heart having the largest electromagnetic field, and why your heart knows before your logical thinking part of you has a clue.
If you have been told you are "too sensitive," if you are grieving a loss or a change in relationship, if you are tired of strategizing how to make things better and just want to breathe, this conversation is for you.
What Arose in This Conversation
- Striving vs. Being: We can feel when things are off, and from that depth comes creativity. But we cannot just keep pushing through. We cannot ignore our body's call for attention. We do not need to give more ideas or more consideration to other people. We do not need to give so much that we are depleted and running on automatic pilot.
- Tears Are Energy in Motion: When your tears start coming up to the surface, that is a release. That is healthy energy in motion. It is something to honor, to pause, to breathe into. It is not something to apologize for.
- Differential Susceptibility: Roughly eighty percent of the population do not have the depth of caring or depth of processing that sensitive beings do. There is no hierarchy. A highly sensitive person can excel when the ingredients are supportive, but could also deal with greater suffering if the ingredients lean in another direction.
- Loss and Change: Life can take unexpected twists and turns. I speak of a dear friend who moved away, and of separating from my husband. When things change, as they can and often do, what is important is to know that you still are valued. You still deserve to feel safe and held and heard.
- Being Your Own Best Friend: Our body is our best friend because it is the only one we are always with. When we do not pay attention to how we are nurturing the relationship with ourselves, we miss crucial understanding of how our life works. We need to get more comfortable and familiar with ourselves.
- Heart Intelligence: The heart has the largest electromagnetic field. It emanates. It is not coming from your head. It is your heart, and it knows before the logical thinking part of you has a clue. Follow your heart.
- Safety in Yourself: When we abandon ourselves to keep figuring out things for everybody else, we stay in that pushing, reforming mode. True healing comes from slowing down and connecting with our breath, with our body, and following our heart.
An Invitation to Carry With You
As you listen, or as you reflect afterward, where are you still apologizing for your emotions? Where are you still striving to make things better instead of allowing yourself to breathe? What would it feel like to be your own best friend today, to place a hand on your heart, and to remind yourself that you are safe within yourself?
