Ep 15 | Your Body’s Unique Response System | Highly Sensitive Series
This is part four of the Highly Sensitive Series, titled "Your Body's Unique Response System." It marks the beginning of the body series, moving from the mind to the physical vessel that carries our sensitivity.
In this conversation, I share my own journey of health challenges, from working in locked psychiatric hospitals at age 19 to realizing that medications were often more problematic than therapeutic for my sensitive system. I talk about the danger of approaching symptoms only from a physical level, missing the deeper communication of the nervous system. I also speak to the power of naturopathic medicine and quantum biology, and the realization that my body is not a machine to be fixed, but a best friend that is always working to bring homeostasis.

What Arose in This Conversation
- The Body Is Your Best Friend: Your body is the one person you are always with. It is your best friend for this lifetime. It is comprised of trillions of cells, each with individual consciousness, always working on your behalf to bring homeostasis and fluidity.
- Symptoms Are Messages, Not Malfunctions: When we feel muscle tension, digestive shifts, energy fluctuations, or sleep disruptions, these are not just physical errors. They are communications from a finely tuned nervous system. Approaching them only from a physical level misses the deeper message.
- The Danger of Pushing Through: In our culture, we are taught to dismiss physical sensations. We throw over-the-counter medication at symptoms, turn to substances, or just work through the pain. This disconnects us from our body and reinforces the idea that it is a machine.
- Depth of Processing in the Body: The core of the high sensitivity trait is depth of processing. We take in more stimuli through all our senses. This means we sense subtleties sooner than others. Muscle tension in the neck, tightness in the chest, shallow breathing. These are subtle signs we can tune into more easily.
- Naturopathic Medicine and Quantum Biology: I share my journey of working with a naturopathic physician and training in quantum biology with Dr. Catherine Clinton. This training provided the research that backed what my intuition had been guiding me toward: that the body wants to heal and find harmony.
- Modeling Self-Respect: When we trust and respond to our body's needs, we are not just caring for ourselves. We are modeling an important form of self-respect for others. We give a permission slip to other women and sensitive souls to do the same.
- The Heart of Who You Are Is Love: We often take love for granted, but it is the core of our being. We give so much love to others, to our families, to our jobs. But we must allow ourselves to receive it. We must breathe in love and exhale tension.
- No Blame, Only Awareness: Many of us were raised to treat the body like a machine. There is no blame. But now we have the opportunity to rise up out of those old patterns and realign with the truth of who we are.
